Estate cleanout guide for families
Take time to decide what stays before anything is removed. Share this guide with the family and the person coordinating the property.
Looking for estate cleanout services near me? We review requests in Androscoggin, Cumberland and Sagadahoc counties, Maine.
1. Before you start
- Secure important documents, valuables, keys, photographs and keepsakes. Ask your attorney what must be kept.
- Remove those belongings from the work areas. Tell everyone helping which rooms and items are off limits.
- Choose one family contact to give the crew an agreed removal list and arrange access.
2. Sort: keep, sell, haul
- Keep: move belongings that stay into a separate, clearly marked area.
- Sell: set aside items the family plans to sell. Arrange that separately before removal.
- Haul: identify the accepted contents you want us to remove. Do not put undecided items in this group.
3. What can be removed
- Furniture, couches, mattresses, ordinary household contents and appliances can be reviewed for removal.
- Include the basement, attic, garage, sheds and storage units in your photos. Property cleanout services follow the agreed scope.
- Storage unit cleanout services and hoarding cleanup require safe access and a review of the contents. Identify uncertain materials separately.
4. What cannot be included
- We do not take hazardous materials, paint or chemicals.
- Set aside solvents, pesticides, propane tanks, asbestos, medical waste and car batteries. Do not mix them with household contents.
- Biohazard cleanup, pest treatment, repairs and unsafe access are not part of the service. Ask us about any uncertain item before scheduling.
5. Quoting and scheduling
- Send photos of every area, large items, stairs, doors and the route out. A walkthrough may be needed if contents or access are unclear.
- We provide a clear written quote after reviewing photos or a walkthrough. Agree on the areas and items before work begins.
- You get your price first, then pay securely with the link we send to confirm. Timing is subject to availability and can be coordinated with the family, personal representative or realtor.
6. On cleanout day
- Have the agreed contact available and arrange entry. Clear the route to the items and keep belongings that stay separate.
- Walk through the removal list with the crew. We remove only the agreed accepted contents.
- The crew sweeps cleared areas for a broom clean finish. Review the completed scope with your contact. Deep cleaning and repairs are separate.
