How to get rid of a treadmill
By Junk Lords crew / Published / Updated
Option 1: Sell or give it away
Working treadmills often sell or get picked up free through local buy-and-sell groups, and the buyer moves it. Include the brand, model and a photo of the display working.
Option 2: Take it apart
Many people search how to dismantle a treadmill. Unplug it, fold it if it folds, and remove the console and uprights with the right tools. Keep track of bolts. The motor and frame are heavy, and the belt deck is awkward. Only do this if you are comfortable with tools.
Option 3: Transfer station
Many Maine towns accept treadmills in metal or bulky waste areas, sometimes with a fee. Check your town's rules.
Option 4: Pickup
One treadmill is a single item at $64. With other items, it goes on a job priced by size.
Getting it out
Treadmills often live in basements or spare rooms. Most do not fold small enough for tight stairs, so send a photo of the treadmill and the route out. Unplug it before pickup.
Posted prices
Every job starts from the same posted price card. A single item is $64. A small job, up to about 1.5 cubic yards, is $119. A medium job, about 3 cubic yards or roughly a room, is $189. A large job, about 5 cubic yards or roughly a garage bay, is $239. An extra-large job, about 10 cubic yards, is $479, and anything past 10 cubic yards is $45 per yard. A mattress or box spring is $64 alone or $20 each on a job. A washer, dryer, stove or dishwasher is $69 alone and free on a job. A fridge, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier is $99 alone or $35 on a job. A TV or monitor is a $15 add-on. Construction debris is the job price plus 20%. Estate cleanouts start at $499 and hoarding cleanouts at $599. The full list is on the pricing page.
Other exercise equipment
Ellipticals, exercise bikes, weight benches and home gyms work the same way. Very heavy weight sets should be mentioned in your photos.
Why treadmills are hard to move
Most home treadmills weigh well over 150 pounds, with the weight concentrated in the motor end. Folding models are lighter to carry but still awkward on stairs. Moving one usually takes two people and a dolly. If the deck is cracked or the belt is torn, nobody will want it secondhand, so removal is the practical choice.
Before pickup
- Unplug it and coil the cord.
- Fold it if it folds and lock it.
- Remove the safety key and any loose accessories.
- Clear the hallway and stairs.
Ellipticals, bikes and home gyms
Ellipticals, exercise bikes, weight benches and rowing machines are handled the same way as treadmills. If you are clearing a whole home gym, send photos of everything together so it can be priced as one job by size instead of item by item. Loose free weights should be boxed.
If the treadmill is in a basement, check the stairway width and any tight turns before booking and mention them with your photos. That helps us plan the carry and keeps the job on schedule.
How booking works
Send photos through the quote form or text them to (207) 333-1422. No card is needed to ask. Caden looks at the photos and sends your price. If it works for you, you pay from the link he sends and that confirms the slot. The price we send is the price you pay unless the pile changes. If you add things after the price goes out, the price is updated before work starts, not after.
