How to get rid of a couch in Lewiston

Option one: haul it yourself

Lewiston residents can take bulky waste to the Lewiston Solid Waste Facility at 420 River Road. Hours are Monday to Friday 7:15 am to 2:45 pm and Saturday 8:00 to 11:50 am, and it is for Lewiston residents only, with license checks at the gate.

The city EZCard waives tip fees on 1,000 pounds of waste a year, including bulky waste like a couch. After that you pay the fee. Property owners get the first card free when taxes are paid, and tenants can buy one for $25 with a lease and a license. One card per household, valid one year. Sign up at 420 River Road or the Treasurer Office at City Hall, 27 Pine Street.

That route means lifting the couch into a vehicle, driving it over and unloading it yourself.

Option two: we carry it out

Before either option

Note stairs and tight doorways. A sleeper sofa is heavier than it looks. If you haul it yourself, mixed loads with scrap metal may need the bypass lane at the facility.
